The Australian and New Zealand Optical Society (ANZOS) was established in 1983 to provide a forum for research, development and discussion of optics and related fields such as spectroscopy, imaging and laser physics. ANZOS is an affiliate member of affiliate member of Science and Technology Australia and a constituent organisation of the Royal Society Te Aparangi and advocates for Australian and New Zealand science and innovation through these affiliate organisations and also provides direct representation to politicians in both countries. ANZOS also presents the annual Australian and New Zealand Conference on Optics and Photonics (ANZCOP), a week of international quality research presentations and high impact plenary speakers, usually co-located with the Australian Institute of Physics Congress.
Members of the Society include academics, students, engineers, medical practitioners, industry professionals and more. Membership benefits include a subscription to the quarterly journal ANZOS News which lets members keep up to date with optical research in the Australia-New Zealand region and optics and science policy, regular reports on the status of Australian and New Zealand photonics and quantum science, and tools allowing them to contact and collaborate with their peers in the field. Members are also eligible for discounted registration for ANZCOP, reduced membership rates to join ANZOS’ international partners SPIE and Optica, and can receive financial support for running science in public events such as the International Day of Light, or attending the annual ‘Science Meets Parliament’ run by Science Technology Australia. ANZOS also offers brand and product advertising through ANZOS News to corporate and industry members.
