Civan Lasers has been recognised by two awards: the William M. Steen Award for Innovation in Laser Technology and the SMAU Innovation Award in Milan.
Shipbuilder Fincantieri and welding systems firm Castellini developed a breakthrough in welding efficiencies using Civan’s laser technology (see our earlier story, Shipbuilding with Civan raises the steel bar). The collaboration won the SMAU award because it proved new industry standards were enabled by Civan’s Dynamic Beam Laser (DBL) technology.
The William M. Steen Award celebrates Civan’s third-generation 120kW single-mode DBL, which was announced at the International Congress on Applications of Lasers and Electro-Optics. This latest generation incorporates transformative advances not only in power but also in reliability, compact size, and durability – all key assets for industry.
By combining multiple, single-mode fibre lasers in an optical phased array, Civan achieves a true DBL that enables tailored control of the laser output. Configurable parameters include beam spot size and shape, focal distance, and power modulation, all at MHz speed and without adding any optical elements or moving parts.
Accepting the award, CEO of Civan Lasers Dr Eyal Shekel said the collaboration with Fincantieri and Castellini demonstrated “how Civan’s latest 20kW DBL exceeds industry demands, delivering faster, stronger, and more sustainable solutions for sectors where efficiency and resilience are critical”.
