Jacobs Vehicle Systems moves to 100% part validation on engine brakes by installing FOBA laser marking stations with integrated vision inspection
Traceability is a key concern in commercial truck production, where vehicles are assembled from thousands of components produced by different suppliers across the world. FOBA has recently worked with Jacobs Vehicle Systems to integrate a fully-automated all-in-one laser marking and mark validation system into Jacobs’ manufacturing process. The system performs three functions:
- Pre-mark validation, which confirms that the part is correct and currently unmarked, and aligns the mark to the relative position of the part;
- Laser marking of a 2D data matrix code and a human-readable code; and
- Post-mark verification, which reads the content of the 2D data matrix code, compares the result to the expected content, and (optionally) classifies the quality of the code.
The entire process takes only 25 seconds, saving 45 seconds compared to previous solutions where the three steps were performed by separate systems.
