In late January, Raymax installed a new ultraviolet laser source at the University of Otago in New Zealand for their RESOlution laser ablation system. One of the biggest challenges was getting the laser in place: it weighed over 1000 kilograms, was more than a meter long, and the laboratory where it needed to be installed was on the first floor. With great care, our installation team used a crane to transport this delicate piece of equipment, ready to be used for the University’s LA-ICP-MS trace element research projects.
Already, the new laser has provided improved daily performance checks, which speaks highly of the reliability of the RESOlution platform, now manufactured by Applied Spectra. The University of Otago uses this RESOlution laser with a combination of quadrupole and multi-collector ICP-MS instruments to analyse trace elements and their isotope ratios within the Geology Department.
