Dynamic Beam Lasers: Expanding the Boundaries of Laser Welding With Civan

Compared to traditional welding, laser welding can be fast, precise and clean. However, conventional lasers still face certain limitations. Civan’s Dynamic Beam Lasers shape and steer the beam in real time, providing solutions to these limitations.

To create a quality weld, conventional lasers require tight tolerances. By comparison, shaping the beam with DBL improves tolerances – for example, a DBL laser can bridge a 2 mm gap in 15 mm plate without loss of quality.

Conventional lasers also struggle with complex joints and tight spaces. DBL lasers have a long range – over a meter, for some applications – and the beam can be steered to bring the laser to the workpiece, avoiding the need to rotate or manipulate the piece.

Some laser welding setups require multiple passes to complete a single weld. In addition to slowing down the welding process, the additional heat can result in distortion of the piece. On the other hand, a DBL laser can weld up to 35 mm in mild steel in a single pass, and the concentrated, fast-moving beam minimizes heat dissipation into the material, minimizing distortion and heat-affected areas.
